EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: Irritating to the respiratory tract, skin and eyes. May be harmful if swallowed.
PRIMARY ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: Contact with skin and eyes. Inhalation of dust.
EYE CONTACT: Causes irritation and serious eye damage. Effects may not immediately appear.
SKIN CONTACT: Causes irritation, with redness and pain. Soluble fluoride may be corrosive. Effects may not ap-
pear immediately
INHALATION: Inhalation of dust causes severe irritation to the respiratory tract, causing coughing, sore throat,
and labored breathing.
INGESTION: May cause salivation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS: Prolonged exposure to hydrolysable fluorine compounds can cause deteriora-
tion of bone and tooth structure.
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS: Irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Fluoride poisoning may cause nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, coma, and respiratory paralysis.
SECTION 4 First Aid Measures
EYE EXPOSURE: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Assure
flushing under eyelids. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eyelids open. Get immediate competent medi-
cal attention.
SKIN EXPOSURE: Wash affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical
assistance if irritation persists.
INHALATION: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as
difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
INGESTION: Seek medical assistance immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if
conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
